Question on movies

Do you read movie reviews? Do you usually agree with the reviewers' opinions?

I do in fact read movie reviews before watching (or downloading) any movies. I usually visit sites such as rottentomatoes.com and imdb.com. Sometimes I even read the reviews in the newspaper or magazines.

For the large part, I do agree with the reviewers' opinions, although there have been a few cases where I've been against their opinion, and really liked to movie when it got bad reviews, or vice versa.

I've discovered some great movies just by reading reviews. Since a lot of movies don't reach latin america, or just aren't known very well here, when I'm bored I go look for the movies with the highest rating, then download them. This is especially good with older movies who only your grandmother knows about :).

English Presentation

This is my English Presentation, I hope you enjoy it. Sorry, but I had some problems with the audio part of the presentation, so I have attached it seperately. Try and play both at the same time so they are synchronized.

Beauty... what is it?

In our last class, we talked about beauty and everyone gave his or her opinion about what they thought beauty was. My anwser was that beauty apart from being the usual physical attraction, is what makes us happy. It's the root of all happiness, no matter how small or important the event. From a simple joke, a funny picture, to the day you graduate or get married, they all have the same result: happiness, and therefore it's all in a way beauty.

We were also asked to give an opinion on the following questions:

Who was the most beautiful person in history?
In my opinion, there isn't a most beautiful person in history. Beauty is something that can be percieved in many different ways, and so it would be impossible to judge every single person. You can maybe have the most physically attractive girl in the world, but maybe she's a shallow and self centered person, so that would disqualify her from being the "most" beautiful. To me, no one is perfect.

Do you think people should have cosmetic surgery to enhance their looks?
There isn't a problem with that, as long as it isn't excessive and the person doing it is mentally aware of the result. If someone doesn't feel comfortable with their body, and seeks to improve it, go ahead.

Do you think people with many piercings can be beautiful?
While I'm not such a big piercing fan, I can agree that in some people they do actually look good. In most, however, they look horrible and to me, really kill their self image. Of course, that's just physical beauty, so it doesn't mean they aren't beautiful. I mean, in some, piercings make them more sure of themselves, and that's a beautiful quality to have. To conclude, as long as you are happy with who you are and are sure of yourself, you're probably more beautiful than the hollow superficial person number 459356.

Technology and gadgets

Today, the main topic was technology. First, we talked about a woman named Sally Ride, who was the first woman to be in outer space. She at the age of 26, had 4 degrees and was one of the six women out of a group of 8000 people to be chosen by NASA. She travelled to outer space in the space shuttle Challenger 6 years later.

Later, we talked in general about technology, discussing several questions on the topic, such as cloning, the Internet, cell phones and videogames. In my opinion, it was an interesting discussion and I learned a few things I hadn't heard of before, or wasn't sure about.

Next, we talked about gadgets. We first established what is a gadget, then named all the different gadgets we knew about. Laptops, cell phones, pen drives, calculators, watches; in our modern times, there are countless ammounts of gadgets.

We also posted on our blog a few questions then anwsered them with personal information. A meme made by another student.

Finally, we made a sort of mental map in Powerpoint, which would help us make our oral presentation next week.

Meme

What is a Meme? Here there are some definitions: A meme is:
An idea that, like a gene, can replicate and evolve.
A unit of cultural information that represents a basic idea that can be transferred from one individual to another, and subjected to mutation, crossover and adaptation.
A meme (pronounced /mēːm/) consists of any unit of cultural information, such as a practice or idea, that gets transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.

So, continuing with the meme, I'll anwser the questions on Bertha's blog.

What were you doing 10 years ago?

10 years ago, it was 1998. I was living in Singapore, was 8 years old, and was studying 2nd grade. I also remember the football World Cup where France won.

5 things you have to do today: I have to:

1. Study for my electronics exam I have tomorrow.

2. Buy a new book for class

3. Catch up on my English blogs and buy a mic.

4. Meet up with a friend in the afternoon.

5. Practice a few songs on guitar.

Snacks I enjoy:

Whenever I am hungry, I'll most often make myself some ham and cheese sandwiches. Or, if there isn't any bread, I'll have whatever sweets I can find. Oreos, cakes, etc.

Things I would do if I were a billionaire:

If I were a billionaire, I'd buy myself a mansion, a good car, and then invest the money in something important that would generate funds, so that I'd maintain myself without any problems.

Three of my bad habits:

1. I am sometimes very moody.

2. I can be very lazy.

3. I am too honest and can be very blunt.

5 places I have lived:

1. Venezuela

2. Singapore

3, 4, 5. Maybe once I'm older, since right now I've only lived in 2 different places.

5 jobs I have had:

This is sad, but I've never worked.

3 people I want to know more about:

I'd like to know more about: Claudia, Luisiana and Luis

My fellow English students

In our first class, we were divided into small groups to introduce ourselves. Here, I met 5 other people.
Looking at the picture and seeing the amazingly attractive people, we'll start with our friend Eucaris (or Euca) who's on the far left. She's 17 years old, studies mass communitation. She likes hanging out with friends, acting and loves her family. She dislikes heavy rock music and Chavez. Her dreams are to become a famous actor.
Then we have Claudia, on the right of Eucaris. She's 17 years old and studies industrial engineering. She likes music, dancing and watching soccer games, as well as going out with her friends to the movies. She dislikes liars, cooking and rainy days. Her dream is to graduate from college, get married and to have a good family. She likes English.
Next, is our friend Luisiana. She's 19 years old and studies industrial engineering. She likes music, dancing, watching her favorite TV shows and loves going out and eating chocolate. She dislikes smoking, rock music, drama and cleaning her room. Her dream is to graduate and to go work in the USA. Her opinion on English is that it's an extremely important language.
In the middle we have a dashing young man, but that's me so we've already covered that.
On the right, there's Luis. He's 17 years old and studies industrial engineering. He likes watching soccer games, basketball, music and going out with friends. He dislikes Chavez, working on weekends and hard work. His dream is to be a professional, start a buisness and to someday get married. He likes English and hopes that one day he has a good grasp of it.
Finally, on the far right, there's Mariangela. She's 18 years old and studies mass communication. She likes music, cinema, eating and cooking, and going out with her friends. She dislikes rock music. Her dreams are to graduate and to one day have a beautiful family.
So with that, this current blog is done. Until the next edition.
